VNV Nation
VNV Nation is an Irish/English electronic music band originally from Dublin and London, now based in Hamburg, Germany. Founded in 1990 by Ronan Harris, the group's name stands for "Victory Not Vengeance", embodying their motto "One should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret."
Their music combines elements of synthpop, trance, and electronic body music (EBM). They are known for their high-energy live performances and distinctive, uplifting sound that blends thematic lyrics with a danceable beat.
Ronan Harris, the group's frontman, is responsible for the band's lyrics, vocals, and music production. Mark Jackson, who joined in 1996, was the band's live drummer until his departure in 2017.
Over the years, VNV Nation has released ten studio albums, the most recent being "Noire" in 2018. They have gained a loyal following, particularly within the goth and club scenes, due to their philosophical and inspirational lyrics and their unique sound that crosses genre boundaries.
Despite their success, VNV Nation remains independent, releasing their music under their own label, Anachron Sounds, until 2017, when they switched to Metropolis Records. Their independence allows them to maintain full creative control over their music, adding to the authenticity that fans appreciate.
In addition to their music, VNV Nation is also known for their charity work, with Harris often donating proceeds from their albums and concerts to various charitable organizations.
