The Whispers formed in 1963, when brothers Wallace and Walter Scott joined forces with their friends Nicholas Caldwell and Marcus Hutson in Los Angeles. It wasn't until 1970 that they hit it big with their hit "Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong." But here's the tricky thing: Their first hit, "And the Beat Goes On," didn't come until 1979. A decade of hard work, right?

Through the '70s and '80s, The Whispers kept grooving, blending R&B with funk and a hint of disco cool. Tracks like "Rock Steady," "Keep On Loving Me," and "And the Beat Goes On" became classics. The group even earned a Grammy nomination for their 1987 album "Just Gets Better with Time."
