Royal Blood is a British rock duo formed in Brighton in 2013. Comprised of Mike Kerr on vocals and bass and Ben Thatcher on drums, the band is known for its unique sound, delivering hard-hitting rock music using only a bass guitar and a drum set.
Kerr and Thatcher, who had been friends since their teens, decided to form Royal Blood after their previous bands disbanded. They quickly gained attention with their debut single "Out of the Black", which was released in November 2013. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2014, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and won the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2015.
Their music style, often described as a fusion of garage rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock, has drawn comparisons to other rock duos like The White Stripes and The Black Keys. However, Royal Blood has carved out its own distinct identity with Kerr's innovative use of effects pedals to create a full-band sound from his bass guitar and Thatcher's powerful drumming.
Royal Blood has released three albums to date, with their latest, "Typhoons", released in 2021. They continue to maintain a strong presence in the rock scene both in the UK and internationally, renowned for their energetic live performances and their ability to push the boundaries of what a two-piece band can achieve musically.
