Queens of the Stone Age is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme, who has remained the only constant member throughout various line-up changes. The band's name was chosen by Homme as a contrast to the machismo common in the stoner rock scene, wanting to imply that his band was "heavy enough for the boys and sweet enough for the girls."
The band's debut self-titled album was released in 1998, but it was their second album 'Rated R' in 2000 that brought them into the mainstream. The album featured guest appearances from notable musicians and was praised for its unique blend of hard rock, blues, and psychedelia.
Their third album, 'Songs for the Deaf' in 2002, was a critical and commercial success, featuring the hit single "No One Knows." It showcased the band's diverse style, ranging from heavy metal to acoustic ballads.
Throughout their career, Queens of the Stone Age have been known for their distinctive sound that incorporates a wide range of musical styles. They've received multiple Grammy nominations and continue to be a major influence in the rock music scene. Despite many lineup changes, the band has maintained a consistent presence in the music industry, with Homme's distinctive guitar work and vocals as the driving force.
