Monica Denise Arnold, known professionally as Monica, is an acclaimed American R&B singer, songwriter, and actress. Born on October 24, 1980, in College Park, Georgia, she began performing as a child in a traveling gospel choir, before being discovered by Dallas Austin, a music producer who helped launch her career.
Monica's debut album, "Miss Thang," was released in 1995 when she was just 14. The album spawned number one Billboard Hot R&B hits, including "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life," making Monica the youngest artist to have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the R&B chart.
Her follow-up albums, "The Boy Is Mine" and "After the Storm," also achieved significant success. The former included a duet with Brandy, also titled "The Boy Is Mine," which became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award.
