Mapache is a Los Angeles-based music duo known for their harmonious, folk-inspired sounds. The group consists of Clay Finch and Sam Blasucci, who met at a performing arts high school in California. The name 'Mapache' means 'raccoon' in Spanish, a nod to their Californian roots and a shared love for Mexican culture.
Their music is a blend of folk, rock, and Americana, characterized by their close-knit harmonies, acoustic guitar work, and heartfelt lyrics. They draw inspiration from artists such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Band, and Gillian Welch.
Mapache released their self-titled debut album in 2017, which was well-received for its laid-back sound and authentic storytelling. The duo's second album, 'From Liberty Street,' was released in 2020. This album was recorded in their shared home on Liberty Street, giving it a deeply personal and intimate feel.
Despite their relatively short career, Mapache has gained a dedicated following for their timeless sound and soulful performances. They are frequently praised for their ability to create music that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Beyond their albums, Mapache is also known for their engaging live performances, often featuring just the two of them on stage with their guitars.
In addition to their work as Mapache, Finch and Blasucci are also members of the psychedelic rock band Grateful Shred, further showcasing their musical versatility. Despite their burgeoning success, Mapache remains committed to their roots, creating music that reflects their experiences and the world around them.
