Machine Head is an American heavy metal band formed in 1991 in Oakland, California. The band's founding members include vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce. Machine Head is recognized as one of the pioneering bands in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal.
The band released their debut album, 'Burn My Eyes', in 1994 which was a significant success, becoming Roadrunner Records’ best-selling debut album. Their music incorporates elements of thrash and groove metal, with lyrics often addressing political and societal issues.
Over the years, Machine Head has seen several lineup changes, with Flynn being the only constant member. Duce departed in 2013, and the current members, as of 2021, are Flynn, Jared MacEachern (bass), Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka (lead guitar), and Matt Alston (drums).
Machine Head has released nine studio albums, with their most successful being 'The Blackening' (2007) which earned a Grammy nomination. Despite facing various challenges, including label issues and lineup changes, Machine Head has maintained a dedicated fanbase and continues to be a significant force in the global metal scene.
