Jawbox
Meet Jawbox! This awesome rock band from Washington D.C., formed back in 1989 by guitarist Bill Barbot, bass player Kim Coletta, drummer Adam Wade, and lead vocalist and guitarist J. Robbins. They quickly became known for their unique blend of post-hardcore, alternative rock, and indie sounds that made them stand out among other bands at the time.
The group released four studio albums during their active years – Grippe (1991), Novelty (1992), For Your Own Special Sweetheart (1994) which was produced by John Agnello, and finally Jawbox (1996). Their songs were filled with catchy melodies, powerful lyrics, and intricate instrumentation that kept fans coming to see them live across North America throughout most of the early '90s.
In addition to touring extensively on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, they also appeared as guests or performed alongside some big names like Fugazi, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Helmet, Quicksand, Superchunk, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and many more. These experiences helped shape who they are today.
Unfortunately, after six successful years together, life took its toll; personal differences led to internal conflicts within the band members, ultimately resulting in an amicable split between themselves and major label TAG Recordings in late 1995. In April 1997, following one final show at New York City’s Irving Plaza venue, Jawbox officially disbanded.
But wait... there is good news too! After nearly two decades apart, these talented musicians reunited once again in March 2019 when they announced plans for several reunion shows later that year. Since then, Jawbox has been performing select concerts around the United States while continuing work on new material—a testament not only to their enduring legacy but also to how much love still exists amongst each member even all those years since parting ways.
