Genres
The Jacob Joliff Band is an American contemporary bluegrass ensemble led by mandolin virtuoso Jacob Joliff. Born into a musical family, Joliff was a prodigy who started playing mandolin at a young age. He honed his skills at Berklee College of Music where he became the first full-scholarship mandolin student.
After graduation, Joliff joined the progressive bluegrass band Joy Kills Sorrow, touring with them until the band's dissolution in 2014. He then became a member of the Grammy-nominated group, Yonder Mountain String Band, further enhancing his reputation as one of the best mandolin players in the country.
In 2015, Jacob Joliff decided to form his own band, recruiting some of the best young instrumentalists in the country: Stash Wyslouch on guitar, Alex Hargreaves on violin, and Myles Sloniker on upright bass. The Jacob Joliff Band showcases Joliff's astounding technical ability and his innovative approach to bluegrass music.
Their music is a blend of traditional bluegrass with elements of jazz, classical music, and folk, creating a unique and captivating sound. The band's live performances are a testament to their exceptional musicianship, featuring tight harmonies, intricate arrangements, and stunning solos. While they don't have a large discography, their music is highly regarded in the bluegrass community.
