Front 242 is a pioneering Belgian electronic music group that emerged in the early 1980s. The group was formed in 1981 in Aarschot, near Brussels, Belgium, by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen. They were later joined by Patrick Codenys and lead vocalist Jean-Luc De Meyer.
Front 242 is widely regarded as a trailblazer in the electronic body music (EBM) genre, a style characterized by repetitive, hard-hitting beats and provocative lyrics. They gained widespread acclaim with their 1984 album "Geography" and followed up with successful releases like "No Comment" in 1984 and "Official Version" in 1987.
The band's popularity peaked in the late 80s and early 90s, particularly in the United States, with their 1991 album "Tyranny >For You<" entering the Billboard 200. Their single "Headhunter" became a club hit and is considered a classic in the EBM genre.
Despite several lineup changes and hiatuses, Front 242 continues to perform and release music. Their influence can be seen in various industrial and electronic music acts that followed and they remain a significant force in the world of electronic music. Their work is characterized by their innovative use of technology, politically charged lyrics, and a powerful live performance style.
