Flyleaf
Flyleaf is an American rock band formed in Texas in 2002. The original members were vocalist Lacey Sturm, guitarists Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann, bassist Pat Seals, and drummer James Culpepper. The band's name, Flyleaf, is a reference to the blank page at the front or back of a book, symbolizing potential for new beginnings.
Flyleaf gained popularity with their self-titled debut album in 2005, which was certified platinum and produced the hit singles "I'm So Sick," "Fully Alive," and "All Around Me." Their music, often categorized as alternative metal or post-grunge, is notable for its blend of heavy riffs, melodic elements, and Sturm's distinctive vocals.
In 2012, Sturm left the band and was replaced by Kristen May, who featured on the band's third album, "Between the Stars." May departed in 2016, and the band has been on hiatus since.
Throughout their career, Flyleaf's lyrics often explored themes of faith, struggle, and redemption, reflecting the band members' Christian beliefs. Despite this, they resisted being classified as a strictly Christian band, aiming to reach a broader audience with their music. As of now, Flyleaf's future remains uncertain, but their impact on the alternative rock scene continues to resonate.
