Evanescence
Genres
Evanescence is an American rock band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The band's name, meaning "a dissipation or disappearance like vapor", symbolizes the transient nature of life, a theme often explored in their lyrics. Their debut album, "Fallen" (2003), propelled them to global fame, selling over 17 million copies worldwide and earning two Grammy Awards. The album included hit singles like "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal", both of which topped international charts.
In 2003, Moody left the band due to creative differences, making Lee the de facto leader. The band then released "The Open Door" in 2006, which sold more than five million copies. Their self-titled third album, "Evanescence", released in 2011, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Evanescence's music is characterized by the ethereal, soprano vocals of Lee, combined with heavy guitar riffs and electronic elements. Their style has been described as gothic rock, nu metal, and alternative metal. Despite several lineup changes over the years, Evanescence has continued to produce music and tour worldwide, solidifying their status as one of the most successful rock bands of the 21st century. Their latest album, "The Bitter Truth", was released in 2021.
