Dave Matthews Band
The Dave Matthews Band, often abbreviated as DMB, is a renowned American rock band that was formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. The band was founded by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, who was joined by bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer Carter Beauford, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, and violinist Boyd Tinsley.
Their unique blend of rock, jazz, and world music elements, combined with Matthews' distinct voice and introspective lyrics, quickly garnered a loyal fan base. The band's first major hit, "What Would You Say," came from their debut studio album, "Under the Table and Dreaming" (1994), which certified six times platinum.
DMB is known for their extensive summer-long, nation-wide tours, featuring lengthy improvisational renditions of their songs, accompanied by elaborate video and lighting. The band is also recognized for its commitment to charitable efforts, particularly through their Bama Works Fund.
Sadly, original member LeRoi Moore passed away in 2008. The band currently consists of Matthews, Beauford, Lessard, Tinsley, Rashawn Ross, Tim Reynolds, and Jeff Coffin.
Over the years, DMB has sold over 33 million albums in the United States, making them one of the top-selling rock bands of all time. Their accolades include a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for the hit song "So Much to Say" in 1997. Despite lineup changes and the passage of time, the Dave Matthews Band continues to be a major draw on the concert circuit and maintains a devoted following.
