Dance Gavin Dance
Dance Gavin Dance is an American rock band from Sacramento, California, formed in 2005. The band's unique sound blends elements of post-hardcore, math rock, experimental rock, and progressive rock.
The band was originally composed of lead vocalist Jonny Craig, guitarist Will Swan, drummer Matt Mingus, bassist Eric Lodge, and unclean vocalist Jon Mess. Over the years, Dance Gavin Dance has experienced numerous lineup changes, with Swan and Mingus being the only consistent members. Craig’s erratic behavior led to his departure in 2007, replaced by Kurt Travis. Craig returned in 2010, only to be replaced again by current lead vocalist Tilian Pearson in 2012.
Despite the revolving door of vocalists, the band has managed to maintain a dedicated fan base and has released nine studio albums to date. Their discography includes "Downtown Battle Mountain" (2007), "Happiness" (2009), "Instant Gratification" (2015), and "Afterburner" (2020).
Known for their complex guitar riffs and eclectic style, Dance Gavin Dance has made a significant impact on the post-hardcore scene. Their music often features contrasting dual vocals of melodic clean singing and harsh screams, combined with intricate guitar work and progressive song structures.
Their lyrical content is known for its abstract and often nonsensical nature, adding to the band's unique and distinct style. Dance Gavin Dance continues to tour and produce new music, solidifying their place in the modern rock scene.
