Ashanti
Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, simply known as Ashanti, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actress born on October 13, 1980. Born and raised in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, she was named after the Ashanti tribe in Ghana.
Ashanti's musical career began in 2001 when she signed with Murder Inc. and collaborated with artists like Ja Rule, Big Pun, and Fat Joe. She released her debut album, "Ashanti," in 2002, which featured 12 songs written by herself. Her second album, "Chapter II," released in 2003, also gained significant success. Throughout her career, Ashanti has received numerous awards, including two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, eight Billboard Awards, and a Grammy.
Ashanti's music is characterized by contemporary R&B, with clever Hip-Hop samples, radio-friendly beats, and R&B melodies. Although her popularity declined from 2002 to 2008, there is still hope for a career revival, as her music continues to resonate with fans.
