Alien Weaponry
Introducing Alien Weaponry, a thrash metal powerhouse with a unique twist! This three-piece band hails from Waipu, New Zealand and was formed in 2010 by two brothers: 8-year-old Lewis de Jong (guitars, vocals) and 10-year-old Henry de Jong (drums). They've since welcomed Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds as bassist, an electric mix of diverse cultural backgrounds including Māori ancestry from Ngati Pikāo and Ngati Raukawa tribes.
Different from the crowd, Alien Weaponry weaves Te Reo Māori—the native language of New Zealand—with their metal music. Fans love the band's fearless lyrics and kinetic performances, reflected in acclaimed albums like 'Tū' (2018) and 'Tangaroa' (2021), under Napalm Records. They've toured alongside giants like Slayer, Black Label Society, and Prophets of Rage, earning props from Metal Hammer magazine and a priority position in the metal scene.
The brotherly bond inspires intricate songwriting and shared Māori heritage influences the band's lyrics, often referencing haka traditions and colonial history. Their eclectic sound combines thrash and groove metal with a touch of haka spirit. Alien Weaponry has rocked global stages—from Wacken Open Air to MetalDays and Bloodstock Open Air—spreading Māori culture and shaking up the music world.
Keep your ears tuned for this rising force that's both futuristic and cultural, testifying to the diverse strength of the metal genre!
